Comedian Dr Ofweneke Sparks Controversy Over Educated People and Marriage

Kenyan comedian and media personality Dr Ofweneke has stirred widespread debate after claiming that most “learned” people struggle to stay married.

Speaking during a recent radio interview, the entertainer — whose real name is Sande Bush — argued that higher education and exposure can sometimes complicate marriage rather than strengthen it.

“Most people who are learned do not stay married,” Dr Ofweneke said during the discussion.

According to Dr Ofweneke, education often brings independence, strong opinions and ego — factors he believes can clash in marriage.

“Education comes with exposure. Exposure comes with ego,” he said.

The comedian suggested that many highly educated individuals approach relationships with rigid expectations, making compromise more difficult.

“When two people are learned, everybody has an opinion. Everybody feels they are right,” he added.

His argument centered on the idea that marriage requires humility and emotional intelligence, qualities he implied are sometimes overshadowed by intellectual pride.

“Marriage is not about who is more educated,” he said. “It’s about understanding and submission.”

Dr Ofweneke also linked financial independence among educated couples to rising marital instability.

“When someone knows they can stand alone, they don’t tolerate much,” he remarked.

He explained that in past generations, couples often stayed together due to financial dependence or societal pressure. In contrast, modern, educated couples may feel less obligated to endure difficult situations.

“Nowadays, if it doesn’t work, you walk away,” he said.

However, he clarified that he was not condemning education itself.

“Education is good,” he noted. “But it should not replace wisdom.”

The comments ignited immediate discussion online, with Kenyans divided over whether academic achievement truly affects marital stability.

Some users agreed with him.

“He’s not lying. Educated people argue too much,” one user commented.

Others disagreed, saying failed marriages cannot be blamed on education.

“Marriage fails because of character, not degrees,” another wrote.

Relationship experts who weighed in on the debate argued that while education can influence communication styles and expectations, it is not a direct cause of divorce.

Dr Ofweneke’s views on marriage often attract attention due to his own public relationship history.

The comedian has previously been open about his past marriages, including his former union with gospel singer Nicah The Queen.

“He’s speaking from experience,” one commenter observed.

Dr Ofweneke’s comments have added fuel to that ongoing conversation.

“Being learned is good,” he reiterated. “But marriage needs more than knowledge.”
