EACC Strikes Partnership With South Africa’s SIU to Boost War on Graft

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will deepen its cooperation with South Africa’s Special Investigating Unit (SIU) in a move aimed at bolstering the fight against graft across the region.

EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud said the partnership would enhance capacity to safeguard public resources, uphold integrity, and restore trust in public institutions.

“The fight against corruption knows no boundaries. Through strategic partnerships such as this, we strengthen our collective capacity to protect public resources and restore public trust,” Mohamud said on Thursday at the Integrity Centre while hosting an SIU delegation on a courtesy call.

The collaboration will cover capacity building, joint training, technical expertise exchange, staff development, and collaborative research.

Both agencies also plan to improve case handling, strengthen prevention strategies, and enhance recovery of stolen public assets.

SIU Head and Chief Executive Adv. JL Andy Mothibi—who also serves as Vice President of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA)—hailed the meeting as a “valuable platform” for benchmarking and sharing best practices across Commonwealth Africa.

“This engagement strengthens partnerships that are critical for tackling corruption at a transnational level,” he said.

Officials from both sides said the details of the cooperation will be formalised in a framework agreement to guide implementation of the joint initiatives.

The EACC–SIU collaboration builds on years of inter-agency cooperation within African and global anti-corruption networks, and comes amid growing calls for cross-border action against economic crimes.
