KILIFI, Kenya – Twelve people, including eight Hungarians and two Germans, have died after a Mombasa Air Safari aircraft crashed on Tuesday while flying from Diani to the Maasai Mara.
In a statement, the airline confirmed that the aircraft, registration number 5Y-CCA, was involved in an accident on October 28, 2025, while operating a scheduled flight from Diani Airport to Kichwa Tembo Airstrip in the Maasai Mara.
Mombasa Air Safari said all 11 passengers and one crew member—the Kenyan pilot—perished in the crash.
“We are profoundly saddened to report that there are no survivors. Our hearts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic event,” the airline said.
The company said it had activated its emergency response team and was working closely with relevant authorities, who have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
“Our primary focus right now is on providing all possible support to the families affected,” the airline added, noting that a Family Assistance Team has been set up to provide counselling, logistical help and other necessary support.
The ill-fated aircraft was on a popular tourist route linking Kenya’s south coast to one of the country’s most visited safari destinations.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and other investigative agencies are expected to issue further updates once preliminary findings are available.
This is one of the deadliest air accidents involving a local charter airline in recent years.
