Gospel rapper and entertainer Eko Dydda has declared his intention to vie for the Ruaraka Member of Parliament seat in the 2027 General Election.

“This is not my first time vying,” Eko Dydda said during the interview. “I am vying again because we need change, and those changes will not happen if we don’t have the right leadership.”

The announcement places the artist among a growing list of public figures who have signalled their political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections. While he has declared his intention to run, Eko Dydda has not yet disclosed the political party under which he plans to contest or released details of his campaign platform.

Eko Dydda is best known for his work as a gospel hip-hop artist, having built his career through music that blends rap with Christian themes. He rose to prominence with songs such as Niko na Reason, Vidole, and Me and My House, earning recognition within Kenya’s gospel music scene.

Born and raised in Eastlands, Nairobi, Eko Dydda grew up in the Mathare area, an experience he has frequently cited as influential in shaping his worldview. He has spoken publicly about surviving the 2007–2008 post-election violence, saying the period deeply affected his views on tribalism, unity, and leadership.

Beyond music, he has been involved in community-based initiatives, particularly those targeting youth empowerment. His work has included mentorship programmes and sports activities aimed at engaging young people in under-served neighbourhoods.

Eko Dydda previously ventured into politics during the 2022 General Election, when he contested for the Mathare North MCA seat. He later claimed that he won the election but was unable to be sworn in after his victory certificate was allegedly stolen during an attack on him and his campaign team.

The musician is married to Cynthia Ayugi, popularly known as Galia, and the couple has two sons. Family life and faith have remained central themes in both his music and public messaging.
