Farm Worker Arrested After Elderly Couple Brutally Murdered in Elburgon

Date:

NAKURU, Kenya – Shock and grief have engulfed Elburgon in Nakuru County after an elderly couple was brutally murdered and their bodies dumped in a pit latrine within their homestead.

The victims, identified as 72-year-old Pius Machogu and his wife Jerusha Kwamboka, 70, were allegedly killed by their farm worker, according to police.

Neighbours raised alarm after failing to spot the couple for hours, prompting a search that led to the grim discovery. Police, with the help of locals, retrieved the bodies from the latrine.

The farm worker, who had attempted to flee after the incident, was later arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue. Detectives are working to establish the motive.

The killings have left the Elburgon community in shock, with residents describing the couple as respected and peace-loving.

“We are deeply saddened. They were good people who lived peacefully with everyone,” one neighbour said.

Local leaders and police have urged calm, assuring residents that justice will be delivered.

The tragic case comes amid growing concern over rising violent crime in Kenya.

According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, more than 3,500 homicide cases were reported nationwide between 2018 and 2023, with Nakuru County among the regions recording frequent incidents of violent attacks.

Residents are now calling for tighter security and more community vigilance to prevent similar tragedies.
