NAIROBI, Kenya – FIFA President Gianni Infantino will attend the final of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Saturday, August 30.
Infantino, who will be the chief guest, will be making his first visit to Kenya since assuming office as world football’s top official.
According to Nicholas Musonye, Chairman of Kenya’s Local Organising Committee, Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe and all 54 heads of national football associations in Africa will also grace the occasion.
“Infantino’s visit is a huge endorsement for Kenya’s football and its growing stature in the continent,” Musonye said.
The CHAN 2024 final will pit Morocco against Madagascar, bringing the curtain down on a tournament that has been hailed for its organisation, competitiveness, and fan turnout.
Morocco will be seeking a third title, while Madagascar is chasing history as the first island nation to win the competition.
The final also comes at a critical time for Kenya, which is preparing to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Ministry of Sports has confirmed that security and logistical arrangements for the high-profile visitors are complete. Ticket demand has surged, with Kasarani expected to be filled to capacity.
President William Ruto, Azimio leader Raila Odinga, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed are among the dignitaries expected.
Infantino’s attendance is seen as both a symbolic show of support and a strong signal of FIFA’s confidence in Kenya’s ability to stage major continental and global football events.
