NAIROBI, Kenya-A fire alarm at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s (JKIA) Terminal 1C Check-In area has prompted a swift emergency response on Saturday, leading to a temporary evacuation.
Despite the disruption, flight operations remained unaffected, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has confirmed.
According to KAA,the incident occurred at approximately 2:55 p.m. when the fire alarm system at Terminal 1C was activated.
KAA stated that the airport’s Fire and Rescue team responded immediately to assess the situation and ensure passenger safety.
Although the initial alarm was silenced, it continued to reactivate intermittently.
As a result, the system was shut down temporarily to allow for a full investigation into the cause of the malfunction.
“To ensure the safety and security of passengers and operations personnel, Terminal 1C was temporarily vacated,” KAA said in a statement.
All departing flights originally scheduled at Terminal 1C were relocated without incident to Terminal 1A and Terminal 1B.
Airport authorities confirmed that the transfers were seamless and that JKIA’s overall operations remained normal throughout the event.
Passengers were advised to consult with their respective airlines for updates on terminal assignments.
KAA noted that no injuries or damages were reported during the incident.
“The airport management assures the public that safety remains a top priority and appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders during this time.”
KAA reiterated its commitment to operational excellence and passenger safety, underlining its mission by stating, “Setting our sights high.”
Investigations into the source of the repeated fire alarm activation are ongoing.
The authority asserted that airport operations teams remain on-site to monitor the situation and restore full functionality to Terminal 1C as soon as possible.
