Five Suspects Linked to Ruaka Kidnapping Arrested in Thindigua

KIAMBU, Kenya — Detectives have rescued a man who was kidnapped in Ruaka, Kiambu County, and arrested five suspects believed to be behind the abduction.

The victim’s ordeal began when he went missing, prompting concern from his girlfriend.

When she tried to reach him by phone, an unknown man answered and demanded a ransom of Ksh.500,000 for his release. Alarmed, she immediately reported the incident to police.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers launched a swift intelligence-led operation that traced the suspects to Ithanga, Murang’a County. The victim was found there, injured and wearing a blood-stained shirt.

The suspects — identified as Sydney Ezra Achanda, John Louise Omondi, Enock Sum Cheruyot, Peter Kanini Mwangi, and Lucy Sara Muhonja — were later cornered and arrested near Quickmatt Thindigua.

Police also seized two vehicles believed to have been used in the kidnapping — a red Suzuki Swift and a white Mazda Demio.

A search of the cars uncovered a kitchen knife, ten assorted mobile phones, and a tablet.

Investigators revealed that the gang had already received Ksh.68,000 from the ransom demand by the time of their arrest.

The suspects remain in custody as detectives finalize investigations ahead of their arraignment in court.
