Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed has revealed that Harambee Stars players and technical staff have received a combined Sh232 million in allowances and bonuses over recent months.
Speaking on Citizen TV, Hussein said the payments covered 27 players and their support staff, though a handful are yet to be cleared.
“Allowances were paid in July when in camp and August up to yesterday (August 23). So far, Sh21 million has come directly from the federation, while the rest is bonuses, including those issued by President William Ruto for every win and draw,” he said.
He added that although the government caters for allowances of 24 players, FKF has stepped in to support the remainder.
“Whatever the team gets is the effort of the federation. We do everything in our power to make sure we remunerate the team well,” Hussein stressed.
The payments covered training camp allowances and performance-based rewards, coming shortly after the team exited the African Nations Championship (CHAN) following a defeat by Madagascar.
Kenya earned Sh58.2 million in prize money from CAF for reaching the quarterfinals, sparking debate among fans online about how the windfall will be distributed.
Hussein maintained that both the government and FKF remain committed to ensuring players and staff are well taken care of despite the disappointment in CHAN.
