NAIROBI, Kenya –Former U.S. Vice President and renowned climate advocate Al Gore is set to visit Kenya from June 12 to 14, 2025, for a high-profile climate training event aimed at empowering grassroots action in the fight against climate change.
Gore, founder of The Climate Reality Project, will host the 59th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training in Nairobi, marking the second major stop on the organisation’s 2025 REALITY® Tour—a global campaign leading up to the COP30 summit in Brazil later this year.
In a press statement, Gore hailed Kenya’s dual role as both a victim of the climate crisis and a global leader in clean energy innovation.
“Kenya is at the forefront of the world’s efforts to solve the climate crisis. While its people suffer the consequences of worsening food insecurity, displacement, and energy pressures, the country is also showing the world what bold climate leadership looks like,” he said.
The Nairobi event will convene climate activists, policymakers, youth, and community leaders to explore solutions that address both climate mitigation and resilience building.
Topics will include Kenya’s role in green industrialisation, renewable energy access, and climate finance gaps—as well as practical advocacy strategies.
Participants will also gain access to Gore’s iconic climate science presentation and exclusive training content through a new online platform.
The training seeks to amplify East African voices and foster a new generation of climate advocates, with sessions led by regional experts including Wanjira Mathai of the World Resources Institute, Nyaguthii Chege of the Green Belt Movement, and Raya Ahmed Famau, Executive Director of Lamu Women’s Alliance.
The Climate Reality Project, which now boasts over 3.8 million supporters globally, aims to catalyze policy change through informed civic pressure.
Its trainings are known for blending the latest science with practical skill-building in communication and advocacy.
The urgency of Gore’s visit follows a year marked by extreme weather in Kenya—from record-breaking droughts to devastating floods—highlighting the immediate need for climate adaptation and action across the region.
Following Paris and Nairobi, the REALITY® Tour will continue with stops in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, reinforcing the global momentum building ahead of COP30.
As Gore noted, “The world cannot afford to delay climate action further. Climate reality training empowers people to drive real change.”
Kenya’s training is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Africa’s climate leadership narrative heading into the global climate talks later this year.
