NAIROBI, Kenya– Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of misappropriating billions allocated to the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to fund political operations and church donations.
Gachagua, who spoke in a televised interview with an online media platform, claimed that the Sh10 billion allocated to the NIS in the last supplementary budget ostensibly to address regional insecurity was instead being used for political patronage and personal power consolidation.
“NIS has a lot of money, but it is not used for security operations,” Gachagua said.
“That money is the one William Ruto uses to bribe leaders. It is the money he used to get me impeached. It is the money he is using to give churches Sh20 million.”
The DCP party leader further asserted that Members of Parliament are being funded with Sh10 million daily to run empowerment programs to boost the President’s popularity nationwide.
Gachagua claimed that during President Ruto’s last visit to the Mount Kenya region, over Sh1 billion was spent on political mobilization efforts.
Likewise, the former DP took a swipe at the DCI leadership, claiming that they have for a long time ill advised the head of state, choosing to hide the truth on how Kenyans perceive the Kenya Kwanza administration from President William Ruto.
This even as he relentlessly criticized the head of state for using the criminal justice system to go after his lieutenants in a bid to frustrate their support for him ahead of the 2027 polls.
