NAROK, Kenya — DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused the government of attempting to block him and his entourage from accessing Narok Town, alleging that police mounted roadblocks to prevent him from campaigning for Democratic Congress Party (DCP) candidate Douglas Masikonde ahead of the November 27 ward by-election.
In a statement, Gachagua described the administration as “cowardly and brutal,” claiming security agencies had been instructed to stop his motorcade.
He said he was forced to rely on residents who guided him through “village paths unknown to the police,” allowing him to make what he called a “triumphant entry” into Narok.
“The people are stronger than all roadblocks, bullets, stones, teargas, or any dictator in the world,” he said, praising local youth for helping him bypass the police cordon.
Gachagua, now a leading opposition figure, told supporters that the alleged attempts to frustrate his campaign were evidence of a wider effort to influence the upcoming by-election. He vowed that “no amount of blood money or police brutality” would intimidate voters.
He further accused the government of trying to subvert the will of the people, saying Kenyans would deliver a clear message at the ballot.
Government officials have not responded to the allegations. Police have previously dismissed similar claims by opposition leaders, calling them misleading.
