Ulinzi Stars skipper and Harambee Stars striker Boniface Muchiri has earned a new rank in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) following his stellar performances on the pitch.
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri officially conferred Muchiri’s promotion from senior private to corporal, describing him as a disciplined officer who continues to bring pride to both Kenya and the military.
“We are very grateful for your commitment, hard work, and excellent performance while serving Kenya and, by extension, the KDF. We wish you success in future assignments and are confident you will continue to excel,” General Kahariri said during the ceremony.
Muchiri’s elevation comes on the back of his commanding role in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), where he has been a standout player for Kenya’s national team.
KDF Leadership Reviews Ulinzi Stars Progress
Alongside the promotion, General Kahariri also received an interim report on the state of Ulinzi Stars Football Club covering the period 2020–2025.
The report, presented by Brigadier Ahmed Saman, assessed the team’s performance on and off the field, including coaching, player welfare, administration, recruitment, and training. It also reviewed the adequacy of training facilities, equipment, and support structures.
Benchmarking exercises with other successful clubs were included to draw lessons and propose both short- and long-term measures aimed at strengthening Ulinzi Stars’ competitiveness and management.
General Kahariri assured full KDF support in implementing the recommendations, stressing that while Ulinzi Stars should aim to remain a top footballing force, the team must also uphold the discipline and values of the Defence Forces.
A Ceremony of Honour
The event was attended by Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General John Omenda, Director Personnel and Logistics Major General Edward Rugendo, senior officers, service members, and players from Ulinzi Stars FC.
For Muchiri, the promotion is more than just a new stripe on his uniform. It represents recognition of his dual duty — excelling as a professional footballer while serving as a soldier, a balance few achieve at the highest level.
