NAIROBI, Kenya – The government has officially declared the County Commissioner residences in Bungoma and Kwale as new State Lodges, according to a gazette notice issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
The gazette notification, made public on Friday, confirms that the official residences of the County Commissioners of Bungoma and Kwale are now designated as State Lodges, meaning they will serve as official residences for top government officials during official engagements in these regions.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares the Bungoma County Commissioner and Kwale County Commissioner’s official residences as State Lodges,” the notice reads.
The facilities will be managed by the State House Comptroller’s office to ensure they are prepared for any official events involving the Head of State.
State Lodges, in addition to the main State Houses located in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Nakuru, serve as accommodation for the President and other senior government officials when conducting duties outside the capital.
Other State Lodges are spread across the country in locations such as Eldoret, Sagana, Kisumu, Kakamega, Kitale, and Kisii, providing the President with accommodation during his regional development tours.
The upkeep of these lodges is financed using public funds under the State House budget.
Since taking office, President William Ruto has occasionally held Cabinet meetings at these State Lodges during his tours aimed at fostering regional development across Kenya.
