NAIROBI,Kenya— The State Department for Trade is calling on Kenyans to submit their views on a newly drafted Kenya E-Commerce Policy, aimed at creating a structured framework to guide the growth, regulation, and sustainability of the country’s digital trade sector.
The policy seeks to address a broad range of issues critical to online commerce, including consumer protection, digital infrastructure development, bridging the digital divide, promotion of digital skills, support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and environmentally sustainable e-commerce practices.
According to the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, the draft policy is the result of collaboration between government agencies, the private sector, and academic institutions.
“The policy is designed to create a coherent digital trade environment that supports Kenya’s socio-economic goals under Vision 2030,” the department said in a public notice.
In line with constitutional requirements on public participation, the department is encouraging citizens, industry players, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to submit written feedback via its official email before 21st July 2025.
Additionally, a hybrid public participation forum will be held on 23rd July 2025 in Nairobi to collect further views.
The venue will be announced through official channels.
E/commerce continues to expand in Kenya driven by mobile penetration, fintech growth, and shifting consumer habits.
The government hopes the policy will address regulatory gaps and boost confidence in digital transactions.
With the sector rapidly evolving, the department aims to ensure that the final policy reflects diverse voices and lays the groundwork for inclusive and sustainable digital trade.
