NAIROBI, Kenya- Shortly after unveiling Grok 3, the latest version of his xAI chatbot, Elon Musk announced that Grok will soon be available as a standalone app for macOS and Windows.
This marks a significant step in xAI’s expansion, bringing the chatbot beyond X (formerly Twitter) and into users’ desktops.
But before you rush to the App Store or Microsoft Store—hold on. The app isn’t there yet.
Grok Goes Desktop: Mac and Windows Apps Incoming
Musk took to X to drop the news, writing: “Grok will also be offered as a standalone application for macOS and Windows.”
A follow-up post suggested that downloads had already begun, but so far, neither Apple nor Microsoft has listed the app officially.
This move signals Musk’s intent to make Grok more accessible, stepping beyond X’s ecosystem.
While Grok has already launched on iPhones, its Android counterpart is still in limbo, showing a “Coming Soon” message on the Google Play Store.
xAI had previously opened pre-registrations for Android, but the company remains tight-lipped on an official release date.
New Grok 3 Features—But at a Cost
Grok 3, announced earlier this month, is now available, but only for those subscribed to X’s Premium+ plan.
The latest model boasts improved reasoning, better coding capabilities, and the much-hyped “deep search” feature, which allows the chatbot to retrieve more in-depth information from the web.
However, xAI isn’t giving everything away under the Premium+ tier. More advanced features—presumably the ones that truly make Grok 3 shine—will be locked behind a higher-priced subscription called SuperGrok.
Details on pricing and availability are still under wraps.
Grok Android app is now open for testing in Australia, Canada, India, Philippines, and Saudi Arabia. Visit the Google Play Store to try it. play.google.com/store/apps/det… Be among the first 1,000 users and share your feedback.
X Premium+ Just Got More Expensive
Alongside Grok 3’s launch, X quietly jacked up its Premium+ subscription prices.
Monthly rates surged by over 80pc, while annual plans saw a 70pc hike. That’s a steep increase for users already paying for access to Musk’s AI experiment.
With Grok’s standalone apps rolling out and a multi-tiered subscription model taking shape, xAI is clearly aiming to compete with ChatGPT and Google Gemini. The question is: Will users buy in?
