How to Apply for University and College Placement via KUCCPS

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its application portal for the placement of 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates into degree, diploma, and certificate courses.

The portal will remain accessible until April 21, 2025, giving students a window to apply for opportunities in a wide range of institutions across the country.

The placement will cover over 40 public universities, the Open University of Kenya, 29 private universities, 263 public colleges under the Ministry of Education, 141 public medical training colleges (including KMTC), and 30 university-affiliated TVET institutions.

Eligibility and Application Process
KUCCPS has urged candidates to select courses based on their KCSE results, ensuring that their grades meet the cluster points required for each program.

The platform also accommodates candidates who sat for their KCSE exams between 2000 and 2024, inviting them to apply for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Teacher Training College (TTC) programs.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has reiterated that the minimum university entry requirement remains a mean grade of C+ (plus).

For students who achieved this grade in the 2024 KCSE examinations, university admission is guaranteed.

“The government has not reintroduced cut-off points for admission to university. The minimum admission requirement remains a mean grade of C+,” Ogamba stated.

The ongoing placement process follows the first phase, which targeted students enrolling in Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and TVET institutions.

Those candidates have already been informed of their placements.

University Funding Clarified
Addressing concerns raised over university funding, CS Ogamba dismissed claims that the government would need Sh100 billion annually to support the 2024 KCSE cohort.

Instead, he clarified that the projected annual cost stands at Sh25.85 billion for the 246,391 eligible students.

The figure of Sh100 billion represents the cost spread over four years.

Ogamba also assured parents and students that funding reforms are being implemented to ensure that no student misses out on higher education opportunities due to financial constraints.

Avoiding Fraudsters
KUCCPS has warned students and parents against fraudsters posing as intermediaries for the application process.

The service emphasized that applications can only be submitted through its official portal at students.kuccps.net.

The portal offers detailed guidelines on the application process, including course options, institution lists, and specific requirements for each program.

Candidates are advised to follow the instructions carefully and complete their applications within the given timeframe to secure their placements.

With the application period now open, KUCCPS aims to ensure a seamless and transparent placement process, giving candidates the opportunity to pursue their higher education goals in accredited institutions across Kenya.
