NAIROBI, Kenya – In a step towards strengthening global security, the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) officially launched a comprehensive training program titled “Countering Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering” in Nairobi, Kenya today.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Soipan Tuya, and IMCTC’s Secretary-General, Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi.
The training, aimed at enhancing the capacity of government bodies, financial institutions, regulatory authorities, and law enforcement agencies, underscores the importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism financing.
In her address, Soipan Tuya reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to combating terrorism by addressing its financial roots, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, legal coordination, and ongoing capacity development.
“Counterterrorism efforts must target the financial sources that support terrorism,” stated Tuya, adding that terrorist financing continues to fuel the planning and execution of attacks, underscoring the need for robust international partnerships like that with IMCTC.

Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi, in his remarks, reiterated the global nature of the terrorism threat, which transcends national borders, impacting security, stability, and development worldwide.
He highlighted Kenya’s pivotal role in tackling security threats across Africa and praised the IMCTC’s strategic vision to enhance international collaboration in fighting extremist ideologies, media manipulation, and military operations.
The program will provide participants with in-depth knowledge on international legal frameworks, agreements, financial crime detection techniques, and regional cooperation.
It will also feature specialized workshops on preventing terrorism financing and money laundering, building the capacities of institutions to prevent these threats.
The event marks a significant milestone in the IMCTC’s ongoing efforts to foster global cooperation in countering extremism and ensuring regional and international security.
