The 59th edition of the Christie Sevens, Kenya’s longest-running rugby sevens tournament, took place over the weekend of August 16–17, 2025 at the RFUEA Grounds. This year marks the largest tournament ever, featuring 81 teams and nearly 1,000 players across multiple categories:36 men’s Division One teams,8 women’s teams,33 age-grade squads and 4 veteran teams
The men’s final saw KCB Rugby stamp their authority, beating Menengai Oilers 26–7 in a dominant performance. From the start, the bankers were sharp and clinical, leaving the Oilers chasing the game.
The Oilers, despite falling short in the final fought bravely in their semifinal against Strathmore Leos and showed put up a good fight throughout the weekend.

Kabras Sugar endured a weekend to forget. Last year’s dominant champions were shockingly knocked out in the pool stages, struggling with uncharacteristic errors and sluggish play. A surprise defeat to Daystar Falcons summed up their troubles.
The women’s tournament produced some of the most exciting rugby of the weekend. Mwamba RFC, fondly called the “Black Lionesses,” were flawless, eventually defeating Kenya Harlequins 15–5 in the final. NYS Ladies and Ruck It Rugby-rising contenders caught attention with their fearless style of play, proving that the women’s game in Kenya is expanding in both quality and depth.
In the veterans’ category retired greats and seasoned campaigners dusted off their boots for a spirited run-out. Impala Old Boys emerged as winners after edging out Nondescript Legends in the finals, though the contest was more about camaraderie than silverware.Mwamba Veterans and Harlequin Veterans also participated in this category.
This year’s Christie 7s was also remarkable for its scale. With 81 teams and nearly 1,000 players across men’s, women’s, veterans, and age-grade categories, it was officially the biggest edition in the tournament’s history.The pools featured established league giants, university sides, and community clubs, creating a unique blend of rugby cultures.
This year, Tusker’s sponsorship worth KES 3 million ensured that off-pitch activities were as vibrant as the matches. Food courts, beer gardens, and branded lounges transformed RFUEA into a carnival ground. An official afterparty capped Saturday’s play, attracting both players and fans for a night of celebration.
