Kenya Power Announces Day-Long Outages Across 12 Counties for Network Upgrades

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Power has announced widespread electricity interruptions across 12 counties on Thursday, December 11, as engineers undertake scheduled maintenance aimed at improving network reliability.

In a public notice issued Wednesday, the utility said the planned outages are necessary to upgrade aging infrastructure and enhance supply stability in fast-growing regions.

In Nairobi County, several major installations and densely populated estates will go without power for much of the day.

Parts of Muthaiga — including the Kenya College of Accountancy, the Traffic Police Headquarters, sections of Utalii Hotel, Muthaiga Primary School, Mathari Teaching and Referral Hospital, Muthaiga Police Station, the Muthaiga Golf Club Hotel and Karura Health Centre — are expected to experience extended outages.

Residents in Eastleigh, Shauri Moyo and surrounding areas will also be affected, with interruptions covering the AP Camp, Shauri Moyo Dispensary, Blue Estate, Biafra Estate, Bahati Towers and adjacent neighbourhoods.

Power cuts will further hit parts of South C, including sections of Muhoho Avenue, Ole Shapara Avenue, Mama Ngina Children’s Home, Reliance Hospital and KEWI, as well as estates around Parkview, Heshima, Five Star, Olive Road and the Kawi Complex Road corridor.

In Machakos County, residents in the Tala–Kangundo zone will also be off supply for the day.

The interruption will span Nguluni Township, Tala Market, Kangundo Town, Tala High School, Matungulu Boys and Girls High Schools, and an extensive network of surrounding villages, including Kitunduni, Katine, Mukuyuni, Kinyui, Matheini, Misyani, and Sengani.

In Uasin Gishu County, consumers in Lingwai and Bindura — including Ngeny Bindura, Tulwet, Chuiyat, Kamiywo and Bayete — are expected to remain without electricity for part of the day.

Nandi County will experience full-day outages in Tembwo, Koimet, and Chebindara villages, while Kisumu County’s Kesref area, including Kibos Prisons, Tamuwa, Cibo, White Coal, Sugar Research, Gita, and Kajulu Water, will also be affected.

In Kakamega, the Lubao belt — covering Ebwabwa, Shinyalu Bar, Bishop Stamp, Emusala, KMTC, New National Housing, Shikutsa Prison, Emukaba and Bukhaiywa — is slated for maintenance-related disconnection.

Busia County’s Nambale zone will experience cuts across Mungatsi Market, Madende and Elwanikha secondary schools, Esidende Polytechnic, Kwangamor Market, Kamolo, Musokoto, Igara, Lupida Health Centre, Busibwabo, and Lwanyange.

In Vihiga County, Sabatia residents will face full-day interruptions affecting Sabatia Eye Hospital, Vokoli, Mago, Busweta, Galagosi, Chakanga, Itegero, Budaywa, Bugina, Mudungu, Nabwani, Chavogere and surrounding settlements.

Kiambu County will experience cuts around Thogoto and the PCEA Hospital area, affecting the University of Nairobi’s Kikuyu Campus, Kikuyu PCEA Hospital, Alliance Boys and Girls High Schools, Thogoto Shopping Centre, and Thogoto TCC.

In Garissa County, outages will stretch across Garissa Town, Modika, and neighbouring areas. Key installations to be affected include Garissa Referral Hospital, Garissa Ndogo, Water Revenue Offices, Bulla Mzuri, Bashal, Tawakal, South C, the County Assembly, Garissa University, Modika Barracks, and the Water Treatment Plant.
