Kenya Power Orders Komarock Squatters to Vacate, Warns of Forceful Eviction

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya Power has issued a three-month ultimatum for individuals occupying its land in Komarock, Nairobi County, to vacate, warning that failure to comply will result in forceful eviction.

In a public notice published on Thursday, March 13, the utility firm stated that the contested land, identified as LR No. 113044/R Nairobi, is unlawfully occupied despite a court ruling affirming its ownership.

“You are in unlawful occupation of KPLC land … without express/lawful authority or without any right or license under any law and in violation of the decree issued by the Court in Milimani ELCC No. 1453 of 2007 on 26/09/2024,” the notice reads in part.

Kenya Power has directed the occupants to cease any further activities on the land, dismantle any structures, and remove crops or livestock within 90 days.

The company has also warned that those who fail to comply will be evicted at their own cost and risk.

The legal dispute over the Komarock land has been ongoing for years, culminating in a court ruling in 2024 that upheld Kenya Power’s ownership.

However, unauthorized settlers have remained on the property, prompting the latest eviction notice.

While Kenya Power has cited legal backing for the eviction, the situation raises concerns over possible resistance from affected residents, a scenario that has played out in similar land disputes in Nairobi.
