NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Railways has assured passengers affected by the sudden suspension of the 10pm Madaraka Express train from Mombasa to Nairobi yesterday that efforts are underway to resolve the technical glitch behind the disruption.
In a public notice issued Monday, the corporation confirmed that all affected passengers will be facilitated with alternative travel.
“We have worked on a mechanism to transport all affected passengers, including those who missed the earlier train,” the notice read in part.
Passengers holding tickets dated July 6 are advised to report to the Mombasa Terminus on Monday, July 7 by 8am.
Their tickets will remain valid for boarding and travel.
Kenya Railways reiterated that the service disruption was caused by a technical hitch, and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.
The corporation did not however disclose the exact nature of the technical issue but assured that it is “working tirelessly” to resolve it.
This even as Kenyans continue to slam the corporation for allegedly suspending train services from Mombasa to Nairobi ahead of today’s planned Saba Saba day.
Police had also barricaded major roads leading to the capital city from yesterday night through to today, locking down Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
Already there is heavy police presence in the CBD ahead of the planned protests.
