NAIROBI, Kenya – Some parts of the country will receive occasional rainfall later this week, while others will continue to experience hot and dry weather, according to the latest forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Met Director General Dr. David Gikungu said that the rains will be concentrated in Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Central Kenya (including Nairobi), the Coast, South-Eastern Lowlands, and parts of the North.
However, other regions will remain dry with soaring temperatures.
The hottest temperatures will exceed 30 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures dropping below 10 degrees in parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central and South Rift Valley, and areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Regional Forecast
Lake Victoria Basin & Rift Valley Highlands: Expect sunny intervals during the day, with morning rains and afternoon showers in some areas.
North Rift Valley (Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, and West-Pokot Counties): Days will be mostly sunny with scattered clouds, while nights will be partly cloudy.
South-Eastern Lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta Counties): Light showers with sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights.
Coast Region: Hot temperatures will dominate, but some areas may experience morning, afternoon, or night showers.
Dr. Gikungu advised Kenyans to prepare for the varying conditions, especially in areas expecting heavy rains or extreme temperatures.
The update comes amid growing concerns over climate unpredictability, which has led to alternating droughts and floods in the country in recent years.
The Met Department urged residents to stay informed through regular weather updates and take necessary precautions depending on their region’s forecast.
