NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued its weather forecast for the week ahead, predicting a significant reduction in rainfall across much of the country from April 29 to May 5, 2025.
The outlook highlights areas of concern and provides guidance on expected weather patterns during the week.
According to the department, most regions will experience decreased rainfall, with only a few areas anticipating showers.
Notably, the coastal region, parts of the Central Highlands, and the eastern areas of the Rift Valley are set to see changes in weather conditions.
The meteorological department expects average daytime temperatures to remain high, exceeding 30°C in regions including the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya, as well as isolated areas in Western Kenya and the South-eastern lowlands.
The South-eastern lowlands, covering counties such as Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, and Kajiado, are predicted to experience particularly sunny conditions.
Conversely, cooler nights are expected in the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and around Mt. Kilimanjaro, where minimum temperatures could dip below 10°C, creating a stark contrast to the daytime heat.
The coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, as well as parts of Tana River County, are expected to enjoy sunny intervals, although occasional morning, afternoon, and night showers may affect a few places.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including counties such as Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Nairobi, light rains are expected in the morning, followed by sunny intervals.
Afternoon and night showers are also expected to occur sporadically, with some thunderstorms.
The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley are forecasted to experience sunny mornings, but conditions will shift by the afternoon.
Counties such as Nandi, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Kakamega will see showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and night, occasionally spreading to multiple areas.
In Turkana and Samburu, the weather is expected to remain largely sunny during the day with partly cloudy nights.
However, morning rains and afternoon showers may impact a few locations, requiring residents to be prepared for sudden changes in weather.
Summary of Expected Weather
