KeRRA Announces Temporary Closure of Ngong–Suswa Road

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Ngong–Suswa Road to facilitate crucial construction works aimed at improving the road’s infrastructure.

The closure affects two major segments of the road and will take place in phases between May 12 and June 11, 2025.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, KeRRA outlined the specifics of the closure, which will impact the stretch between Km 0+000 (Matonyok) and Km 2+600 (Junction to KIBHT).

The first segment, from Km 1+400 (Ngere Road Junction) to Km 2+600 (Junction to KIBHT), will be closed from May 12 to 20, 2025.

The second segment, from Km 0+000 (Matonyok) to Km 1+400 (Ngere Road Junction), will remain closed until June 11, 2025.

“This closure is necessary to allow the contractor to carry out major construction works under constrained site conditions,” read the notice.

KeRRA further highlighted that previous temporary diversions had proven inadequate, particularly during the rainy season, which posed safety concerns for road users.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes via Lemiso Road, Maragara Road, and Kibiko, and are urged to adhere to guidance from traffic marshals and police to ensure safety during the construction period.

KeRRA also issued an apology for the inconvenience caused and expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation as they work to improve this vital infrastructure.

This closure comes just weeks after another announcement by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) regarding the temporary three-month closure of the Katani Road junction along Mombasa Road for the installation of fabricated footbridge beams.

Road closures for construction and maintenance purposes are a common occurrence, aimed at ensuring road safety and the successful completion of major infrastructure projects.
