NAIROBI, Kenya – Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of secretly working with President William Ruto despite his public fallout with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking on Hot 96 radio on Sunday evening, Kioni claimed that Gachagua recently held a closed-door meeting with about 15 leaders, including clergy members, in Narok County.
According to him, the discussions centered on the controversial decision by the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) to deny Narok Town Ward aspirant Joshua Ole Kaputa a ticket for the upcoming by-elections.
Kioni alleged that Gachagua told those present that he had reached an understanding with President Ruto, promising that Ole Kaputa would be nominated at a later stage once “their house was in order.”
“Gachagua told them that William Ruto has already sent emissaries to them and they had an arrangement to put their houses in order and then meet to have a discussion,” Kioni said.
The Jubilee SG further claimed that Gachagua outlined his political arithmetic, boasting of securing “seven million votes from the mountain region, one million from Kalonzo, and 800,000 from Matiang’i,” which he said would give him leverage to negotiate with the Maasai community.
Pressed for more details, Kioni declined to disclose the exact date of the meeting, only remarking, “He said it himself. I will give you the date and hour the minute I leave this place.”
The Jubilee Party, Kioni stressed, would only cooperate with political formations genuinely committed to removing President Ruto from power — not those engaged in what he termed “sinister political deals.”
“We would like to work with like-minded parties that actually believe in sending William Ruto home, not in ‘get your people and I get mine,’” he said.
Kioni also used the opportunity to rally young people to take part in the voter registration drive launched by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday, September 29.
“You must register and register in numbers. It makes no sense to be an active critic of the government and fail to vote them out. Failure to that amounts to voting them in,” he said.
IEBC is targeting to register 6.3 million new voters, raising the total from 22.1 million to 28 million ahead of the 2027 General Election.
