NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a scheduled maintenance of its iTax platform set for Sunday night, temporarily affecting access to online tax services.
In a public notice issued through its official customer service handle, KRA Care, the authority said the iTax system will undergo maintenance from Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 8:00 PM until Monday, March 2, 2026, at 12:00 AM.
“Please be advised that there will be a scheduled maintenance of iTax from Sunday, 1st March 2026, 8:00 PM to Monday, 2nd March 2026, 12:00 AM. We regret any inconvenience caused,” the notice read.
Temporary Service Disruption
During the four-hour window, taxpayers will not be able to access iTax services, including return filing, tax compliance certificate applications, payment processing, and PIN-related services.
The iTax platform remains central to Kenya’s tax administration system. It enables individuals, businesses, and institutions to file returns, generate payment slips, and manage tax obligations online.
KRA routinely conducts system maintenance to improve platform stability, enhance cybersecurity safeguards, and upgrade technical infrastructure. Scheduled maintenance is typically done during off-peak hours to minimize disruption.
Advisory to Taxpayers
Tax experts advise taxpayers and businesses to complete urgent filings before the maintenance window to avoid last-minute delays.
While the outage is brief, it may affect entities operating under tight compliance timelines.
Under the tax framework, filing deadlines are governed by statutes such as the Income Tax Act and the Tax Procedures Act.
Failure to meet filing deadlines can attract penalties and interest charges unless otherwise waived by the authority.
KRA has not indicated any extension of deadlines related to the maintenance period. Taxpayers are therefore encouraged to plan accordingly.
Digital Tax Administration
Kenya has progressively digitized tax administration in line with public finance management reforms aimed at increasing revenue collection efficiency and transparency.
The iTax system plays a central role in that strategy.
The authority has, in recent years, emphasized system upgrades to handle growing taxpayer volumes and integrate emerging digital payment systems.
As the maintenance window approaches, KRA has urged patience and assured users that normal services will resume at midnight on March 2.
The brief disruption reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen digital tax infrastructure while balancing service delivery and system reliability.
