NAIROBI, Kenya – People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has declared that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is her political ally in a growing movement to “relieve Kenyans of pain.”
During an interview on Wednesday, Karua emphasized that despite past political differences, she considers Gachagua, President William Ruto, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as “brothers.”
“At this moment, we are standing in the same place with Riggy G and other leaders, determined to relieve Kenyans of the pain that is on their backs. To that extent, we are allies,” she stated.
Her remarks come weeks after she hosted Gachagua at her rural home, signaling a potential political realignment.
Following their talks, Gachagua hinted at deeper collaboration, saying they would “regularly consult” moving forward.
A New Coalition in the Making?
Asked whether their growing political camaraderie could evolve into a formal coalition, Karua was optimistic.
“There will be a coalition. It may not be today, but it is definitely in Kenya. It is now difficult to move forward without working with others,” she said.
Gachagua, who has positioned himself as a champion of Mt. Kenya’s political and economic interests, echoed similar sentiments, praising Karua’s experience and leadership.
“We shall benefit greatly from her counsel. We will consult her regularly alongside other Kenyans of goodwill so that we can liberate this country,” he said.
Karua, known for her firm stance on governance and accountability, urged other leaders and citizens to join their movement, suggesting that their partnership could form the backbone of a broader push for political change.
“Today is a great day. We have joined hands, and a journey of uniting and liberating Kenya has begun,” she declared.
While the specifics of their political strategy remain unclear, their recent engagements have sparked speculation about a potential power shift, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region.
