The ceremony, kept strictly private, marked a new chapter for the former partner of comedian YY (Oliver Otieno), with whom she shares a daughter.
The traditional ceremony, believed to have taken place on May 31, was followed by a church service on August 3, both held in Ugenya. The two events reflected a blend of Luo customs and Christian values, and were attended only by a close circle of family and friends.
Marya, known for her work in local drama productions and digital skits, looked resplendent in traditional Luo attire—donning a flowing leopard-print gown, a feathered headpiece, and beaded sandals.
Her groom, Okula Jack, a legal advisor with the Ministry of Education’s State Department for Basic Education, wore a matching beige outfit detailed with leopard-print fabric, a symbolic walking stick, and a headpiece adorned with cowrie shells—rich in ancestral significance among the Luo community.
The couple’s union included elements of “Ayie”, a key Luo matrimonial rite where the bride price is formally accepted by the bride’s mother, marking the official consent to marriage.
Photos from the traditional event, now circulating on social media, offer glimpses of regal outfits, joyful singing, and proud cultural expressions. A later church ceremony, infused with SDA hymns, sealed the union in spiritual reverence.
The marriage comes less than a year after Marya and YY publicly confirmed their separation in September 2024, citing “unavoidable circumstances.” The two had been together for several years and co-parent their young daughter, Circe Gaona.
While their breakup had been the subject of online speculation and fan commentary, Marya kept her new relationship and engagement completely off social media—only surfacing now through images shared by friends.
