Medical Appeal: Family Seeks Financial Aid to Treat Kin Battling Asthma, Bacterial Pneumonia

Date:

KIAMBU, Kenya – A family in Kinoo, Kiambu County, is appealing for funds to facilitate the treatment of their kin who is battling asthma and bacterial pneumonia.

The condition has put 30-year-old Phylis Barasa in severe health distress as she cannot do basic household chores on her own after being admitted to the hospital.

Her family is now appealing to well-wishers to come to her aid and rescue them from this condition that has now even affected their daughter’s mobility.

How Phylis’s family has reacted to her condition

Phylis’s sister, Diana Barasa, told Y News that she was without complications until December 2023, when the condition was discovered.

“Phylis has been battling asthma and bacterial pneumonia since late 2023, when she was diagnosed with the condition discovered,” said Diana.

In June 2024, Diana disclosed that the asthma attacks reoccurred again before Phylis was admitted to the hospital for 10 days in the HDU and recovered.

“Towards the end of November 2024, the same condition reappeared, which now led to her being admitted at the Kijabe Mission Hospital, where she also experienced two cardiac arrests, leaving her with severe complications,” lamented Diana.

Y News has since established that the family hails from Moi’s Bridge on the border of Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu counties, but before being taken ill, Phylis worked in one of the telecommunication companies as a salesperson.

What is the current Phylis’s medical bill

In an exclusive interview, Diana told Y News that the current medical bill stands at Sh 1.3 million.

“The doctors who have been attending to her in Kijabe have given us the go-ahead to discharge her and take her home, but due to a lack of funds we are unable to do so,” explained Diana, who has now been forced to take in Phylis’s daughter.

For financial assistance, Diana said the family can be reached at: 0729352091 (William Nakoli).

All we know about Asthma and Bacterial pneumonia

Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition characterised by inflammation and narrowing of the airways, causing symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath.

It is often triggered by allergens, exercises, or respiratory infections.

Bacterial pneumonia, on the other hand, is an acute infection that inflames the air sacs in the lungs, which may fill with fluid or pus, leading to symptoms like cough, fever, and difficulty breathing.

While both conditions affect the lungs and can share some symptoms, they have different causes and treatment approaches.
