NAIROBI, Kenya – A Milimani court has issued a warrant of arrest against Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi after he failed to appear in court on Wednesday to answer charges of conspiracy to defeat justice.
The warrant also applies to two of his co-accused — one identified as Peter (6th accused) and another as Njuguna alias Njugush (7th accused) — who similarly skipped the plea-taking session.
Five other individuals, including Juja Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Chairperson Peter Kiratu Muhia and Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, appeared before the court and denied the charges.
The group is accused of conspiring to stage-manage the alleged abduction of MP Koimburi in an attempt to prevent his arrest and arraignment over separate land fraud charges being pursued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
During the proceedings, the court upheld the earlier cash bail terms of KSh300,000 for those who appeared but imposed additional conditions. Each accused person must now provide three contact persons for verification in court.
Defence lawyers urged the court to retain the existing bail terms and requested the release of mobile phones and motor vehicles that were seized during the arrests.
However, state prosecutor Owiti opposed the application, insisting that the items form part of the ongoing investigation.
“We are not opposed to bond for those who are present,” Owiti stated. “But we pray that warrants of arrest be issued against the 1st accused, George Koimburi, the 6th accused Peter, and the 7th accused Njuguna alias Njugush.”
Koimburi is also facing a separate charge under Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act for allegedly publishing false information.
The charge arises from a June 7, 2025, statement the MP made via a YouTube channel while admitted at Karen Hospital.
In the video, Koimburi claimed he had been abducted and tortured by unknown individuals — a claim prosecutors say was knowingly false and meant to incite public alarm.
In addition, his co-accused Peter Kiratu faces a charge of giving false information to police, alleging that Koimburi was kidnapped by masked men after a church service at Full Gospel Church in Mugutha.
The case will be mentioned on August 5, 2025, for further directions.
