NAIROBI, Kenya – Mumias East MP, Peter Salasya, has officially declared his intention to run for president in the 2027 general election, positioning himself as a candidate for a new, inclusive, and accountable Kenya.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, Salasya announced he would launch his presidential campaign under a new political movement, promising to break away from the traditional political norms dominated by tribal alliances and money.
“I will contest the presidency in 2027 under a new movement—one built on the dreams of a fair, inclusive, and forward-looking Kenya,” Salasya declared, adding that the movement would not be controlled by billionaires or tribal lords but would be centered on the people.
Calling for a national rebirth, Salasya urged Kenyans from all walks of life to join his mission to reshape the country’s future.
“Let us make 2027 the year of Kenya’s rebirth,” he urged the nation. “Let’s turn frustration into hope, despair into opportunity, and anger into action.”
In his bid, Salasya committed to sweeping reforms, starting with the healthcare sector.
He pledged to audit healthcare funding, ensuring transparency and accountability, and emphasized that health is a fundamental right, not a luxury.
“Health is not a luxury; it is a right,” Salasya declared, signaling his commitment to tackling issues plaguing the country’s healthcare system.
On the issue of corruption, Salasya vowed to take a firm stance. He described corruption as “economic sabotage” and committed to reforming procurement processes by implementing a transparent, digital, and traceable system.
He also promised to empower anti-corruption agencies to swiftly and justly hold looters accountable for their actions.
Education and youth empowerment were central to Salasya’s vision.
He outlined plans to modernize Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, enhance digital literacy, and ensure that every government department offers mandatory internships and graduate trainee programs.
“No degree should gather dust. No young dream should die due to hopelessness,” Salasya emphasized.
In a bid to incorporate more youth into the political decision-making process, Salasya proposed the creation of a Gen Z Advisory Council, aimed at bringing young people’s perspectives to the forefront of governance.
He also committed to defending digital rights, civic freedoms, and freedom of expression, while ensuring that police brutality would be brought to an end.
“If elected, my government will ensure that the law applies equally to all Kenyans, regardless of their status, tribe, or region,” Salasya stated. “Under my leadership, Kenya will be the place where every young person believes this country works for them—not against them.”
