BOMET, Kenya – Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has praised the contribution of National Police Service (NPS) officers to the national football team’s performance at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Speaking in Bomet on Friday during the 26th Jukwaa La Usalama tour, Murkomen said police teams had played a key role in strengthening the Harambee Stars squad.
“I am very proud that the NPS has two teams in the Kenya Premier League, and they have contributed to the national team playing in CHAN,” he said. “About five of our officers are in the squad, and their discipline and resilience have been evident on the pitch.”
Murkomen congratulated the Harambee Stars for their spirited display in Thursday night’s match against Angola, saying the fighting spirit seen on the field reflected the determination ingrained in the police service.
“The Administration Police of Bomet and the Kenya Police team are champions,” he added. “If you saw the resilience yesterday, know it came from the NPS.”
The CS urged Kenyans to recognise the NPS for its positive contributions beyond law enforcement, noting its track record in sports.
“The NPS has excelled in athletics and football. Many world record holders are police officers,” he said.
Murkomen, who is patron of the Bomet-based AP team, said the squad would be inspired by the national team’s performance and pledged support for the construction of a stadium in the county.
