Murkomen Insists Gachagua Must Record Statement Over Terror Allegations Against Ruto

Date:

NAROK, Kenya – Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua must honour a summon to record a statement over his explosive claims linking President William Ruto to Al-Shabaab.

Speaking in Narok on Monday, Murkomen maintained that the opposition leader should present himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) upon returning from his tour of the United States.

Gachagua recently alleged that President Ruto secretly met three Al-Shabaab militants at night to discuss “business” and accused the government of scrapping vetting for foreigners seeking Kenyan identity cards to conceal its motives.

Murkomen said such remarks were damaging to the country’s image and could not go unchallenged.

“Unless he has a mental problem, he must come and put all those allegations on record,” Murkomen said. “We expect him to tell us which Al-Shabaab we negotiated with, and who did the negotiations. We must stop this propaganda being spread abroad.”

The CS accused Gachagua of hypocrisy, recalling that the former deputy president had previously praised police in Garissa but had now “turned toxic.”

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has also called on Gachagua to appear before investigators to substantiate his claims.

However, Gachagua has dismissed the summons, insisting he is answerable only to the United States Senate, which he claims is investigating the matter.

“The Kenyan government has not initiated any investigations against William Ruto. The people who have done so are the American Senate,” Gachagua said on Saturday. “If there is a need for us to help, we will help the American Senate, not the Kenyan government.”

He argued that Kenya could not conduct an impartial probe since the police fall under the President’s authority.

Gachagua began his US tour on July 11, visiting several states to meet international stakeholders, launch DCP diaspora offices and mobilise opposition support.
