Narok, Kenya – Following the tragic loss of six lives in Angata Barrikoi, Narok County, Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu has pledged that the county government will cover the funeral expenses for the victims, including a seven-year-old child, and provide medical assistance to those injured during the incident.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of April 28, involved a violent clash between residents and police officers over a longstanding land dispute in the region.
The violence has left the community in shock, with local authorities rushing to address the aftermath and ensure justice is served.
Governor Ntutu, who visited the site the day after the incident, expressed his deep condolences to the families of the victims and to the wider community affected by the tragedy.
In a statement, he emphasized the county government’s commitment to supporting the bereaved families through the difficult period.
“We have pledged to meet all funeral expenses for the victims, including a child who tragically lost their life. In addition, we will cover the medical costs for those who were injured during the violent incident,” Ntutu said. “We stand with the families, and we will do everything in our power to ease their burden.”
The governor also took the opportunity to address the ongoing land dispute that has plagued the region for years.
He confirmed that efforts were already underway to resolve the conflict between the Angata and Moyoi adjudication sections, a process he has personally overseen for the past year and a half.
The incident, however, has sparked renewed concerns about the security of land transactions and disputes in the county.
“I have engaged with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to ensure that a full and fair investigation is conducted into this tragic event,” Ntutu added. “We are committed to holding those responsible accountable under the law, and I urge the IPOA to expedite their investigation.”
