NAIROBI, Kenya — Ahead of the Easter holiday, the National Police Service (NPS) has unveiled a comprehensive security and road safety strategy designed to manage the anticipated surge in travel, social events, and tourism during the festive period.
The NPS issued a statement acknowledging that heightened activity during the season will require increased vigilance, especially as heavy rainfall has worsened road conditions across many regions.
Poor visibility and the risk of flooding are expected to contribute to a rise in road accidents, prompting the service to ramp up measures aimed at ensuring public safety.
“These challenges are further exacerbated by the heavy rainfall affecting most parts of the country,” the NPS said, underscoring the need for caution on the roads.
To maintain law and order, police presence will be significantly increased at key public locations such as shopping malls, places of worship, markets, and transport hubs.
In addition to uniformed officers, undercover personnel and specialized units will be deployed across the country to monitor and respond to any emerging threats.
The NPS is also collaborating closely with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to carry out thorough road checks and enforce traffic regulations.
This partnership aims to address road safety concerns by ensuring strict adherence to traffic laws and regulations.
“We urge all drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, boda boda riders, and passengers to comply with traffic rules and regulations,” the statement emphasized.
PRESS RELEASE : SECURITY AND ROAD SAFETY DURING EASTER HOLIDAY
The NPS has called on public service vehicle operators and boda boda associations to work closely with the police, aiming to foster discipline, enhance customer service, and prioritize passenger safety during the busy holiday period.
In a bid to bolster public safety, members of the public are also encouraged to remain vigilant throughout the holiday and report any suspicious activity.
The NPS has provided several toll-free numbers, including 999, 911, 112, and #FichuakwaDCI (0800 722 203), for reporting incidents or obtaining assistance.
“With your cooperation and the unwavering dedication of police officers, we can look forward to a secure and joyful holiday period,” the NPS concluded in its statement.
