NAIROBI, Kenya – Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been removed from the influential Budget and Appropriations Committee and reassigned to the National Assembly’s Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee, in a fresh round of reshuffles affecting dozens of lawmakers.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Tuesday, July 29, announced the changes in a formal notice, signalling a major realignment within parliamentary departmental committees.
Nyoro’s removal comes months after he was ousted as Chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in March and replaced by Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi.
The new changes see him replaced by Dr. Edwin Gichuki Mugo (Mbeere North) on the committee that oversees national budget processes and expenditure priorities.
“Pursuant to Standing Order 175 and previous resolutions of the House, this House further approves the appointment of the following members to the respective committees as specified,” Wetang’ula said during the House sitting.
In his new role, Nyoro replaces Kajiado County MP Lea Sankaire on the Diaspora Affairs Committee—seen as a less influential docket compared to his previous post that placed him at the heart of national budgeting.
The reshuffle affects more than a dozen committees and has sparked speculation over internal political manoeuvres within the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition and among opposition ranks.
