NAIROBI, Kenya — Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi and EALA Member of Parliament Kanini Kega have joined forces with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), signalling a strengthening of Gachagua’s political base ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Havi, a prominent lawyer and former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) member, formally aligned himself with the DCP after publicly declaring his support for Gachagua’s leadership.
The move was confirmed when Havi was photographed alongside Gachagua at the DCP party offices in Lavington, Nairobi, donning the party’s regalia.
DCP party requires great legal minds for Legislation, Representation and Oversight.I am happy to welcome @NelsonHavi, one of the greatest legal minds in the country to walk with us in his quest to represent the people of Westlands constituency in the National Assembly.
Gachagua welcomed Havi to the party, praising his legal expertise and calling him a strategic asset for legislation, representation, and oversight, especially as Havi positions himself to contest the Westlands parliamentary seat in the next election cycle.
Havi had resigned from the UDA in November 2024 and later hinted at shifting his political ambitions towards the DCP while attending a burial in Murang’a County, where he expressed unwavering loyalty to Gachagua’s political direction.
Kega, a former Member of Parliament for Kieni and current East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) representative, also officially joined the DCP.
Welcome Home Hon @kaninikega1.@DCP_Democracy is the home of progressive leaders who desire leadership in the future.
Gachagua described Kega as a “progressive leader who desires leadership in the future” as he welcomed him into the party fold.
Kega’s political journey has included affiliations with Jubilee, UDA, and roles as a strong ally in various political camps, and his defection to the DCP marks another notable shift in the evolving political landscape ahead of 2027.
