NAKURU, Kenya – The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has ordered the immediate closure of Ty Woods Limited, a facility in the Ketigoi area of Mau Summit, Nakuru County, following complaints from local residents over toxic emissions.
In a statement, NEMA cited hazardous emissions from the company’s boiler area, raising concerns about potential health risks to the neighboring community.
The agency conducted an inspection on January 23, 2024, and found that Ty Woods Ltd had failed to comply with an Environmental Restoration Order issued on August 6, 2024.

Further investigations revealed that the company had not obtained an emissions license, a mandatory requirement under the Air Quality Regulations 2024.
Additionally, it lacked pollution control measures to mitigate air contamination.
As a result, NEMA has directed Ty Woods Ltd to cease operations until it implements adequate pollution control measures.
The company has also been ordered to install an effluent treatment plant, manage oil spills, clean its compound, and engage a licensed waste handler to properly dispose of waste streams generated by the facility.
