NLC Chairperson Interviews Set for October as Shortlist Released

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Selection Panel for the appointment of the next Chairperson and members of the National Land Commission (NLC) has unveiled the shortlist of candidates, setting the stage for public scrutiny and interviews beginning next week.

Ten individuals are vying for the influential role of NLC Chairperson, with interviews scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, and Thursday, October 2, 2025.

On the opening day, the panel will interview Dr. Rebecca Kavutha Mutia (Kitui), Dr. Abdikadir Oman Aden (Garissa), Gilbert William Opanga (Vihiga), Monicah Nanyumuk Chentrich (Nakuru), and Abuga Kennedy Kaunda (Kisii).

The following day, five others will face the panel: Nelly Karimi Mbugua (Meru), Prof. Saeed Mutua Mwangi (Kitui), Dr. Justa Wavinya Mwangi (Embu), Dr. Abdillahi Sagaf Alawy (Kwale), and Dr. Humphrey Kimani Njuguna (Murang’a).

In addition to the chairperson position, 51 candidates have been shortlisted to contest for eight available slots as NLC members. Their interviews will be conducted between October 3 and October 14, 2025.

The Selection Panel noted that the shortlist follows a competitive process after a public call for applications was published on August 27, 2025.

To enhance transparency, the public has been invited to submit objections or share credible information about any of the nominees before September 30, 2025.

Submissions should be made through sworn affidavits either via email to nlc2025@publicservice.go.ke or hand-delivered to the Secretary/CEO of the Public Service Commission at Commission House, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi.

The National Land Commission, established under the 2010 Constitution, plays a central role in land management and dispute resolution — a portfolio that often places its leadership at the heart of public interest and controversy.
