KISII, Kenya – The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has said the upcoming by-elections will be a key test of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) preparedness ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations for the Kisii Chapter at Gusii Stadium, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa said the November 27, 2025 by-elections will be a “litmus test” for the electoral body.
“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission must ensure these by-elections are credible. That will determine whether the commission is ready for 2027 or not,” Barasa said.
Barasa also sought to affirm ODM’s unity in Kakamega County despite an ongoing fallout with a faction allied to Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera.
“ODM is firm in Kakamega under my leadership as chairperson, Nelson Majimbo as vice chairperson, and Butere MP Tindi Mwale as organizing secretary, together with other officials,” he stated.
The Nabwera faction was conspicuously absent from the Kisii event, which brought together top ODM leaders including deputy party leaders Simba Arati, Abdulswamad Nassir, and Godfrey Osotsi, as well as national chairperson Gladys Wanga.
Kisii Governor Arati, who hosted the event, said ODM remains the dominant political force in the county.
“This event has brought together delegates from all nine constituencies. ODM will sweep all seats, from MCA to governor, here in Kisii,” he declared.
The rally was attended by Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko, Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina, and several MPs from Nyanza and the Coast, underscoring ODM’s efforts to showcase unity and strength ahead of the 2027 political season.
