Patrick Matasi Suspended for 90 Days Over Match Fixing Allegations

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Kakamega Homeboyz and Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been handed a 90-day suspension by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) amid match-fixing allegations.

The FKF, citing its Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations, announced that Matasi’s ban is effective immediately as investigations unfold.

What Led to the Suspension?

The decision follows the emergence of videos suggesting possible match manipulation, sparking concerns within the football community.

FKF, in collaboration with FIFA, CAF, and other governing bodies, is now conducting an official probe to determine the credibility of the claims.

In a statement released on Thursday, FKF reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of Kenyan football, promising a thorough and transparent investigation.

“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has provisionally suspended goalkeeper Patrick Matasi from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions for 90 days, following concerns raised by circulating videos suggesting possible match manipulation,” the statement read.

The federation has since informed both Matasi and his club, Kakamega Homeboyz FC, about the suspension, which bars him from participating in any FKF-sanctioned events during the investigation period.

Matasi’s Recent Performance Under Scrutiny

Matasi’s suspension comes just months after his last international appearance for the Harambee Stars on October 11, 2024.

Kenya suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Cameroon, a match that drew intense criticism from fans, particularly over a costly error that led to the fourth goal.

Whether this performance has any connection to the current allegations remains speculative, but it certainly adds to the ongoing debate.

As the investigation gains momentum, stakeholders within Kenyan football are watching closely. Match-fixing has long been a shadow over global football, and FKF’s decisive action signals a no-tolerance stance on integrity breaches.

With FKF working alongside international football bodies, the outcome of this probe will be crucial in shaping how Kenya tackles match-fixing moving forward.

Meanwhile, Matasi remains sidelined, awaiting the final verdict.

FKF has assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
