Kenyan media personality and gender equality advocate Pinky Ghelani has opened up about one of the most painful chapters of her life, revealing that she suffered four miscarriages before eventually becoming a mother.

The entrepreneur shared her experience on “Unscripted with Grace” hosted by Grace Msalame.

While reflecting on her journey to motherhood, describing the emotional toll of losing multiple pregnancies and the resilience it took to keep going.

Despite the losses, Ghelani says she considers herself a mother to all six children she carried.

“I am a mum of six, I had four miscarriages. So I can call myself a mum of six, because I have four babies in heaven,” she said while speaking about her motherhood journey.

Ghelani recalled that her first miscarriage happened early in her marriage. At the time, she initially thought she was experiencing food poisoning while on holiday, unaware that she was actually pregnant.

When she later visited a hospital for a check-up, doctors informed her that the pregnancy had ended at around 10 weeks after they were unable to detect a heartbeat.

The news left her devastated and marked the beginning of a difficult period in her life as she tried to process the loss.

After the first miscarriage, Ghelani went on to experience additional pregnancy losses before eventually carrying a pregnancy to term.

At one point, doctors diagnosed her with a blighted ovum, a condition in which a fertilized egg implants in the uterus but does not develop into an embryo.

The repeated losses took a toll not only physically but also emotionally.

Ghelani has previously spoken about how some people in her circle speculated about the cause of the miscarriages, with some even suggesting that her active lifestyle and yoga practice may have contributed.

The speculation added another layer of emotional strain during an already difficult time.

Despite the setbacks, Ghelani eventually gave birth to her first child, a daughter, followed later by a son.

Becoming a mother after the losses brought a renewed sense of gratitude and perspective.

She has often described motherhood as one of the most transformative experiences of her life, helping her develop a deeper appreciation for family and resilience.

Today, Ghelani balances her role as a mother with her work as a media personality, entrepreneur, and advocate for gender equality and social impact initiatives.
