NAIROBI, Kenya- Nairobi motorists are being advised to brace for significant traffic changes on Sunday, August 10, 2025, as the city hosts matches for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.
Nairobi County Traffic Police Commander Joseph Chirchir in a statement has issued a notice detailing road closures and diversions to facilitate the smooth movement of teams, officials, and fans.
According to the advisory, Aerodrome Road will be closed from the Madaraka Roundabout to the Bunyala Roundabout.
On Langata Road, one side of the road from Madaraka Roundabout to Lusaka Roundabout will be shut, while Mombasa Road will have one side closed between Lusaka and Bunyala roundabouts.
To ease congestion, alternative routes have been designated.
Motorists from Mombasa Road heading to the Central Business District (CBD) are advised to use Likoni–Enterprise Road at General Motors or the Southern Bypass at Ole Sereni.
Those coming from Langata Road to the CBD should use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road via the Mbagathi Roundabout.
For travellers from the CBD to Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja, and Thika, the recommended options are Limuru Road or Kiambu Road.
Public service vehicles ferrying passengers to Kasarani should use Ruaraka Baba-Ndogo Road and Ngomongo Road to the Ngomongo Roundabout.
Motorists from Thika Road heading towards the CBD are encouraged to take the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road. Authorities have urged drivers to avoid Thika Road unless traveling to Kasarani Stadium to prevent delays.
Chirchir urged road users to plan ahead and exercise patience during the tournament, noting that the measures are temporary and aimed at ensuring safety and efficient traffic flow.
“These diversions will help us manage the increased traffic volume and support the success of the CHAN tournament,” he stated.
