Police Recover 220 Rolls of Cannabis, Arrest Two Suspects in Kilifi

Date:

KILIFI, Kenya — Police have arrested two suspects and recovered a large consignment of narcotics following an operation in Langobaya, Kilifi County, as authorities intensify the crackdown on drug trafficking along the Coast.

The National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Langobaya Police Station acted on a tip-off from members of the public and carried out the operation on Monday, January 27, 2026, in Chakama Township, Langobaya Division.

According to police, the officers searched a shop where they recovered 220 rolls and nine kilograms of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa. The narcotics were concealed inside a steel box, alongside other undisclosed items.

“During the operation, officers recovered 220 rolls and nine kilogrammes of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in a steel box,” the NPS said in a statement.

Two suspects were arrested at the scene and are currently in police custody pending arraignment in court. The recovered exhibits have been secured at Langobaya Police Station as investigations continue.

Public Tip-Off Proves Crucial

Police commended members of the public for providing information that led to the successful operation, noting that community cooperation remains a key pillar in combating narcotics and other forms of organised crime.

“The National Police Service commends members of the public for their cooperation and reiterates its commitment to the fight against narcotics,” the statement added.

The arrests come amid sustained anti-drug operations across the Coast region, which has long been identified as a transit and distribution corridor for illicit drugs, including cannabis and harder narcotics.

Police in Kilifi arrested two suspects and recovered 220 rolls and nine kilograms of suspected cannabis following a tip-off from the public.

Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, possession, trafficking, and distribution of cannabis sativa attract severe penalties, including lengthy prison sentences and hefty fines, depending on the quantity involved.

Security agencies have repeatedly warned that drug trafficking fuels insecurity, crime, and social decay, particularly among the youth, and have called for stronger collaboration between communities, county governments, and national authorities.

Police said further investigations are underway to establish the source of the drugs and whether the suspects are linked to a wider trafficking network operating in Kilifi County and neighbouring areas.
