Police Condemn ‘Barbaric’ Assault on Woman in Narok as Manhunt Intensifies

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The National Police Service (NPS) has condemned the violent assault of a woman in Narok County, vowing swift justice for the perpetrators of what it described as a “barbaric” attack.

The incident occurred in Mbene, Ngarite area of Narok Central Sub-County and came to public attention after amateur footage of the assault circulated widely on social media.

The disturbing video sparked outrage online, with many Kenyans calling for the attackers’ immediate arrest.

In a statement issued on Friday, NPS spokesperson Muciiri Nyaga said police officers responded quickly to the scene, rescuing the woman who was rushed to hospital for treatment. Her current condition was not immediately disclosed.

“This egregious act constitutes gender-based violence, assault, and kidnapping. These are serious criminal offences under Kenyan law, and the Service will not relent in bringing the perpetrators to justice,” the NPS said.

One suspect in custody, others still at large

Following the circulation of the video, police mounted an intensive manhunt for the attackers.

One suspect has since been arrested and is in custody pending arraignment in court.

The police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects, who are believed to be on the run.

“The objective is to ensure all those involved face justice,” Nyaga stated, adding that the investigation is being treated with the highest priority.

Public commended for tips

Authorities credited members of the public with playing a key role in identifying and apprehending one of the suspects.

Citizens were urged to continue providing any information that could help in the ongoing pursuit of the remaining assailants.

Information can be shared anonymously via police hotlines 999, 911, or 112, or through #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 and WhatsApp 0709 570 000.

Police vow to combat gender-based violence

The NPS reiterated its commitment to protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, pledging to remain at the forefront in the fight against gender-based violence.

“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its duty to uphold human dignity, safeguard freedoms, and ensure that justice prevails,” the statement said.

Gender-based violence remains a widespread challenge in Kenya, with recent reports indicating rising cases, particularly in rural counties.

Authorities say increased cooperation between communities and law enforcement will be key to tackling the menace.
