Police Reassure Public on Security After Garissa Chief, Teacher Killed

Date:

HULUGHO, Kenya — The National Police Service (NPS) has reassured residents of Hulugho in Garissa County of their safety following a deadly security incident that left a local chief and a teacher dead.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 26, the Office of the Inspector General said the attack occurred earlier in the day in the Hulugho area, prompting immediate deployment of security teams to pursue the perpetrators.

“The National Police Service is aware of and is actively responding to a security incident that occurred earlier today in the Hulugho area of Garissa County, in which a chief and a teacher were killed,” the statement read.

Police said a multi-agency security team has launched an operation to track down those responsible, assuring the public that the suspects will be apprehended and brought to justice.

An operation is currently ongoing in the area as security agencies intensify patrols and intelligence-led operations to restore calm.

“We strongly wish to reassure the public, particularly in Hulugho, Garissa County, that their safety and security remain our utmost priority,” the police said.

The service acknowledged heightened anxiety among residents following the attack and confirmed that additional security patrols and operations had been deployed across the region.

Police urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and to cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.

The NPS also appealed for information from the public that could assist in the investigation, urging residents to report any suspicious activity.

Information can be shared through toll-free numbers 999, 911, or 112. Members of the public can also submit information anonymously via the FichuaKwaDCI hotline on 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp 0709 570 000.

“All information will be treated with strict confidentiality,” the statement added.

The National Police Service said it remains unwavering in its constitutional mandate to protect life and property and warned that criminal acts will be met with the full force of the law.

The killings come amid renewed security operations in parts of northern Kenya, where authorities continue to grapple with sporadic attacks targeting government officials and civilians.
