NAIROBI, Kenya – A postmortem examination has revealed that Amos Langat, who was allegedly killed by police officer Mohamed Yusuf Keinan, sustained seven gunshot wounds at close range.
The incident occurred on Sunday night in Kawangware’s Amboseli area after an argument at a pool hall escalated.
According to Langat’s family, the 27-year-old was shot four times in the stomach and three times in the chest.
The suspect, Mohamed, who is a police officer attached to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, has not been formally arrested despite the severity of the incident.
He is reportedly hospitalized under police guard, citing hand and shoulder injuries.
At Chiromo Funeral Parlour, Langat’s family and friends gathered to receive the autopsy results, joined by officers from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), which is now investigating the shooting.
Enoch Langat, the victim’s brother, said the family was devastated after learning the extent of his injuries.
Langat’s friend, Joel Chemisto, confirmed counting seven gunshot wounds.
Langat, a newlywed and a young father, leaves behind a grieving wife and a child.
Speaking to the media, Chemisto urged the government to take action, saying, “Tunaomba serikali itusaidie. Amos ni kijana mdogo, ameoa juzi, ako na mtoto mdogo sana hata hajui nini inaendelea. So tunaomba tu usaidizi kama familia, kama rafiki pia, nasisidiza tusaidiwe Amos apate haki yake.”
Langat’s family is planning to transport his body to their home in Bureti, Kericho County, though a burial date has not yet been set.
Meanwhile, IPOA continues its investigations, with Mohamed’s medical condition expected to determine the next steps in the case.
