NAIROBI, Kenya– Principal Secretary for the State Department for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, has called on heads of directorates within the Ministry of Health to demonstrate robust leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing the government’s health agenda.
The focus remains on achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and strengthening essential health services across the nation.
In a meeting with leadership teams today, Dr. Oluga underscored the importance of aligning all activities with established policy frameworks and conducting regular reviews to ensure progress.
He emphasized the need for innovation, sustainability, and effective resource mobilization, particularly in tackling pressing challenges like the medical internship programme.
Dr. Oluga highlighted that building public trust starts with a collective effort and called for accountability, measurable outcomes, and the alignment of national health priorities with available resources.
He also stressed the importance of collaboration, an open-door policy, and addressing cross-cutting issues through synergy and coordinated actions.

The meeting, which was attended by the Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, and senior officials from various directorates, also reviewed the current state of health systems and the need to protect ongoing progress while addressing any setbacks that may hinder the achievement of key health goals.
