MOSCOW, Russia – Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his gratitude to North Korea, its leader Kim Jong Un, and the Korean People’s Army for their involvement in the recent military operation to liberate the Kursk Region from Ukrainian forces, according to a statement from the Kremlin.
Putin praised North Korea’s solidarity and sense of justice in providing military assistance, highlighting the strong camaraderie between the two nations.
“Our North Korean friends’ actions were guided by a sense of solidarity, justice, and genuine comradeship,” said Putin in his address.
The Russian leader expressed deep appreciation for the leadership of Kim Jong Un and the North Korean people, particularly recognizing the heroism and exceptional dedication of North Korean soldiers.
“We commend the North Korean soldiers’ heroism, their excellent training, and their dedication displayed while fighting alongside Russian soldiers to defend our Motherland as their own,” Putin remarked.
The operation to reclaim the Kursk Region concluded on April 26, marking a significant military achievement for Russia.
Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov also praised the contribution of North Korean servicemen in eliminating the Ukrainian forces in the region.
The operation has further solidified the growing ties between Russia and North Korea, which recently signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement.
Notably, Article 4 of the agreement stipulates that in the event of an armed attack on either country, the other party will provide immediate military and other assistance.
